Skunk by CindarellaPop Skunk by CindarellaPop
Done as part of a contest entry for ToySkunk's contest. Even if I don't win anything, I was struck suddenly with inspiration when she mentioned that skunks love blueberries so I figured I may as well draw it even if it gets nowhere as far as competition.

I have taken quite a few artistic liberties with that berry bush.

Artistic license or not, you'd be almost guaranteed a career in illustrating hard-bound children's literature.

Lol if only blueberries grew on tree-like bushes like that. The skunk is cute, it having a kerchief makes me think of Beatrice Potter work.

Thanks! I was trying to aim for the old fashioned illustration sort of feel for it, I haven't done one in some time.

Aww, I love how you drew the skunk, it looks so cute! :heart:

And I certainly love the way you drew this picture, it reminds me of a vintage illustration from a children's book in the 1920s, :)

That is absolutely amazing. :D The glee on its little face! And they do go to a lot of effort to clean food off their paws, too. :giggle: Plus, I think your version of a blueberry bush looks better in the composition than an 'unpruned' one would.

Thanks! :giggle: I suppose I should confess that I just didn't want to look up what a berry bush looked like so I just sort of invented one.

This is very nice! It reminds me of those old story books back when the art was actually talented and knew how to make appealing pictures that you'd stare at for a good while before flipping the page :) Love it!

Thank you so much. I love books like that and I try to emulate them. Ideally they should have enough detail and attraction that you linger on them for a bit before finally turning the page.

Haha, that's one of those old growth bonsai blueberry bushes.  Instantly recognizable as one of your works.  Enjoyable.

Hehe, the skunk meticulously prunes it with a little pair of bonsai shears and it's very meditative!

I find this amusing because I watched the Saturday Morning Cartoons episode of Futurama today.

"I must get my hands on those healthy purple berries!"

:iconzoidbergplz::iconsaysplz:Bort!

But seriously, I can tell inspiration struck you strongly here.  Look how happy that skunk is!  And such articulate little hands as well (I recently made a remark to good-skunk about the paws of these delightful...if Zoidberguously scented animals, so that's an added bonus, heh).  And such flufftastic volume of the skunk's pelt, it almost looks like you could go Elmira Duff on the lil' stinker.

A lot of good, creative energy went into this, so it's great that good-skunk lady gave you this idea.  And now I have a sudden craving for blueberry yogurt.  Or pie.  I haven't had blueberry pie in forfriggin'ever!

It felt good to draw something this happy, especially because my sketchbook lately is rather glum. Not that glum is necessarily bad, it makes for decent art sometimes but there needs to be some BALANCE, man!

I'm with ya on that one, which is why I went straight for the "stupid-giggles" approach with the last few crazy drawings I've done.  I need to throw in a quick filler drawing to keep the momentum going.  I don't really want to go back to the gloomy stuff until at least the fall.

And the sudden introduction of balance seems to be the early theme this year, so I'm just gonna stay the course.  Now I just need to find me some delicious balance-berries.

:iconzoidbergplz::iconsaysplz:Bort.

STOP that!

Lucky for me, I've sworn off of sugary/cartoony (same thing) breakfast cereals indefinitely as a health-booster, and I've stuck with it for at least 4 or 5 months now.

However, that episode does make me want to put in my GI Joe DVDs.  "Hi, Tinkerbell!" (never fails to get a chuckle out of me!)

How about that, I'm eating sugared cereal right now! Funny how that works. Not exactly healthy purple berries but I can still taste the vitamins and minerals.

Crystallized sugar-chunks aren't minerals!  Don't listen to that stupid Tiger, he's a lying jerkwad!  And don't listen to that damn bee, either.  I KNOW he's voiced by Billy West, but let's see just how much he actually knows about cereal, shall we?

Wow, I actually managed to turn this full-circle right back to Futurama?  I know I say this in pretty much every conversation where this happens, but DAMN, I'm good!
